The title speaks for itself. Below is just a small sample from a sample of samples. Pop Up Animal Kids and Jessica Lea Mayfield are the only two I can offer a full recommendation for at the moment. I don’t have enough information on the others yet, but I have enjoyed these tracks. Stay tuned.

First Show at The Melkweg

For any Amsterdamians reading this, you’re going to think it’s absurd that I’ve been living here for 5 months and I haven’t been to a show at the Melkweg yet. I’m shocked I’m even admitting it on a public forum. So, enough is enough, I’m going to see James Blake on March 4th. First, to enjoy some music in the dubstep-electronica-ambient lounge persuasion, and second, to scope out the venue in preparation for the Dazzled Kid & Houses show on March 30th. Stoked.

Sometimes it takes me a while to get into these artificially produced sounds, even though I understand there’s an art to it. James Blake proves that on the Klavierwerke EP (which apparently means “piano works” in German). “I Only Know (What I Know Now)” has a slow brooding beat and is just empty enough to fill with our own theatrics. I hope there’s enough windows in the Melkweg for everyone. We’re all gonna need a place to stand and give a pensive stare when he plays this. We can’t look at each other… that would be awkward.
